When did the Mawana Marathon start?
This event started in 1982 to coincide with the 9th Asian Games. The company had been organizing a marathon under the name ‘Rath India Open Marathon’. The event was rechristened in 2006 as ‘Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon’
What is the purpose of this marathon?
The Mawana Sugars India Open Marathon is not conducted with any commercial gains in mind, but for the only purpose of promoting a healthful, cheerful and wholesome life, which in today’s time is very essential.
Is the Marathon associated with any sports councils or organizations?
The event is on the national calendar of Athletics Federation of India(AFI) and is granted ‘National Status’, every year. This marathon also served as one of the qualification races for the selection of athletes for the London Olympics Marathon in 2012. The marathon is also supported by the Indian Army. India’s leading distance runners traditionally emerge from the Indian Army, which has been a massive support for the event. They will once again be fielding a big team, including all top national names. The Indian Army is also supporting the Event by providing the Medical Cover and help in Ceremonials.
What is the route?
The Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon is the only marathon to test-run the Commonwealth Games 2010 marathon route for three years in succession before the CWG Marathon was run on it. It is the only marathon in India to start and finish at the India Gate
Which are the other landmarks the marathon would route through?
The race route will showcase the prime areas of the city (First Marathon on Common Wealth Marathon Route). Starting from India Gate running through Parliament Street/ Connaught Place, etc.
What are the categories for the marathon?
The Marathon is an Indian Open Marathon for men and women in the general category and the veteran category.

What are the criteria’s for participation?
The Marathon is open to all men and women above the age of 18 years as on 17th February 2013 for Full and Half Marathon. The age criteria for veterans participating in the Full and Half Marathon is above 45 years for men and above 40 years for women with both requiring proof of age at the time of registration.
Are there any pre- preparation activities undertaken for the marathon?
Coaching Clinics are set up in the city to help interested participants train and prepare for the marathon. The clinic gives 360 degree guidance to all participants in mental fitness, physical training and diet.
Who all are associated along with Mawana Sugars for the event?
While Mawana Sugars is the title sponsor of the event, USHA International is the associate partner. The Radio partner is Red FM. The event is held under the aegis of Athletic Federation of India (AFI).
Are the Full Marathon and Half Marathon timed races? If Yes, what is the finish cut-off time of these races?
Yes, both the races are timed races. The official traffic arrangements provided for the Marathon by the Delhi Traffic Police will be terminated after 4.00 hours of the start of the race.
What is the course record of Mawana Marathon?
Winner of Mawana Open Marathon 2007, Satya Prakash has achieved the course record so far by completing the Full Marathon in 2 hrs 17 minutes and 53 seconds.
